6.5.2 GESIS and Replikationsserver.de (Germany)

Context

The Replikationsserver.de at GESIS was initiated by Prof. Dr. Thomas Hinz (University Konstanz and Zeitschrift für Soziologie) and Prof. Dr. Tobias Wolbring (LMU Munich and und Soziale Welt) in 2015.  It began with cooperation between GESIS and two journals: Zeitschrift für Soziologie (Journal of Sociology) and Soziale Welt.  GESIS provides technical infrastructure for upload and publication of data, including basic data curation and preservation measures.

Replikationsserver.de uses the GESIS service Archiving BASIS, allowing authors to describe and upload their data and/or code in a simple process. All data and code submitted is checked by a curator before publication, including aspects of data protection. Data and code are then made accessible in accordance with the access conditions selected by the depositors (though journal guidelines may apply).

Currently there are three active journals and as of May 2023, there are 75 replication packages linked to articles with supporting data, code, and supplements. GESIS aims to bring on more journals that are interested in this service.
